The ICE variant of the Tata Curvv will likely be launched in H2 2024; new 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines could be offered

Tata Motors has plans to introduce more electric vehicles this calendar year. Following the launch of the Punch EV recently, the homegrown manufacturer will bring in the Curvv and Harrier EV. The Curvv will become the only new nameplate arriving from Tata in 2024 and it will be offered in electric and ICE guises with the former coming first.

The Tata Curvv EV will be launched in the second or third quarter of this CY and will become the second model to sit on the Acti.ev platform, which debuted in the Punch EV. The second-generation EV architecture will also underpin the Harrier EV. The Curvv EV will take on the forthcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX and its Toyota sibling, Hyundai Creta EV, Citroen eC3 Aircross, and others.

The IC-engined Tata Curvv, on the other hand, will lock horns with midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Citroen C3 Aircross, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and MG Astor. It will have a distinctive look compared to others courtesy of the SUV coupe stance, which will also be incorporated in the EV.

The Curvv will derive power from the 1.5L turbocharged DI petrol engine showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and it will likely produce around 168 bhp and 280 Nm. It will be linked with a six-speed manual transmission or an AT. The possibilities of Tata selling the Curvv with a diesel engine are high as the company already has an oil burner in its stable.

The Nexon is retailed with a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo Revotorq petrol engine developing around 113 bhp and 260 Nm, and the same powertrain could be employed in the Curvv as well. It is currently mated to a six-speed MT or a six-speed AMT in the Nexon and both transmission choices could be used in the Curvv as well.

This will give the Curvv a big advantage over most of its competitors as only the Creta and Seltos offer a diesel option in the midsize SUV segment. Expect the petrol and diesel variants to launch in the second half of this year.
