Maruti Suzuki has released a new teaser video that could signal the arrival of an upcoming CNG technology or the AT variants of the Fronx and Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is currently offering S-CNG versions of the Alto, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Baleno, Fronx, and Brezza in the domestic market as it takes advantage of the country’s widest CNG portfolio in garnering volumes. Recently, the largest car producer in India introduced the new generation Swift with evolutionary exterior updates, a more premium interior and a new powertrain.

The more fuel-efficient 1.2L Z-series three-cylinder petrol engine produces around 80 bhp and 111.7 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission or an AMT and boasts a claimed mileage of 24.80 kmpl and 25.75 kmpl respectively. The Indo-Japanese brand has not introduced the CNG variant of the compact hatchback yet.

It is expected to launch in the coming weeks in India. However, the latest teaser video revealed on MSIL’s social media handles does not show the Swift CNG. Instead, the Fronx and Brezza compact SUVs featured in the video. Interestingly, both models are already equipped with CNG variants and thus the teaser could indicate the arrival of an automatic unit.

If not, Maruti Suzuki could introduce a new S-CNG technology in line with Tata’s twin-cylinder system that saves plenty of bootspace. While customers are preferring CNG cars due to the high fuel efficiency characteristics, the main hinderance is apparently the lack of boot volume and Maruti Suzuki could address it in the upcoming launches.

Maruti’s factory-installed S-CNG kit features a specialised injection system that optimises the air-fuel mixture during combustion. According to the brand, this results in consistent performance and improved fuel economy. Additionally, Maruti has adjusted the suspension and braking systems in their CNG vehicles to ensure optimal performance on diverse terrains.

The company already sells the twin-cylinder technology with the Super Carry LCV as two CNG tank of 35L capacity are arranged in parallel to each other and the same setup could be utilised in the Fronx and Brezza soon. Perhaps, other S-CNG models could be incorporated with it too but no official confirmation has been made yet.
