Bajaj Auto has inaugurated its manufacturing plant in Brazil, the first for the Indian two-wheeler maker, spanning 9,600 square meters with a production capacity of 20,000 units per annum

Bajaj Auto has opened a new manufacturing facility in Manaus, Brazil, in a ceremony graced by the Governor of the Amazonas state, along with dignitaries, dealers, and business partners. This expansion underscores Bajaj Auto’s expanding global presence and customer base, with its vehicles now available in over 100 countries worldwide.

Located at Av. do Turismo, nº 13.529 – Bairro Tarumã, the new plant spans 9,600 square meters and boasts state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. It includes advanced facilities for engine assembly, vehicle assembly, and testing with a production capacity of 20,000 units annually, operating on a single shift.

The manufacturing unit capitalises on significant fiscal incentives provided by the State, benefiting from proximity to supply chains and major transportation hubs, which enhances logistical efficiency. The Manaus plant is equipped with advanced, automated production lines and integrated quality control systems as well.

Multiple conveyor and transfer systems facilitate seamless connectivity between different manufacturing stages. Operations are efficiently managed using the Protheus ERP system, which integrates manufacturing, supply chain management, finance, and HR functions. Initially, the plant will prioritize the production of Dominar models, with plans to introduce Pulsar models in the future.

Construction of the plant began in June 2023, and within a year, it was ready for production. Initially focusing on sourcing, assembly, and testing of Dominar models, the facility plans to gradually introduce additional product lines. It has already obtained ISO certification for its production processes. Bajaj do Brasil has successfully integrated local suppliers into its operations, initiating the sourcing of key motorcycle parts and components from within Manaus. Plans for expanding the production capacity by up to 50,000 units per annum in the due course have also been put in place.

The establishment of the new plant, which is first for an Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, comes on the back of good reception for the Dominar range comprising Dominar 400, Dominar 200 (rebranded Pulsar NS200) and Dominar 160 (rebranded Pulsar NS160) in Brazil. At the inaugural ceremony, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd., said, “With the establishment of our own plant in Brazil we have achieved a quantum shift in our local capability to fulfil demand. Our Dominar brand has received an outstanding reception since its launch 18 months ago. The new manufacturing capabilities will enable us to build a wider distribution network, introduce new products and meet growing expectations of our customers.”
