Blacksmiths sent arcs of molten iron flying through the air in a fantastic display of fireworks, creating a visual feast for onlookers lining the banks of the Minjiang River in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, and drawing crowds of residents to enjoy the vibrant spectacle. This traditional folk performance is known as “Datiehua” or “Dashuhua” in Chinese and has a history dating back some 1,000 years. Listed as an intangible cultural heritage, it serves as a traditional celebration during China’s Spring Festival and Lantern Festival.
