Czech tennis star Barbora Krejcikova pulled out of the upcoming edition of the Australian Open, slated to begin on the 12th of January, citing a back injury.

“Unfortunately, my back injury, which troubled me at the end of last season, is still not fully healed,” Krejcikova said.

“It’s really disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have such great memories from reaching the quarter-finals last year,” the world number ten continued.

“I’m working hard to get back to full health, and I can’t wait to see you on the court soon,” she added.

Krejcikova claimed the Wimbledon crown title last year, three years after lifting the French Open trophy.

The 29-year-old has also won seven Grand Slam doubles titles including two at the Australian Open, and also has three major mixed doubles titles, all at Melbourne.

The 26-year-old Sabalenka posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Kudermetova in a game that lasted 1hr 47min to claim the 18th title of her career.
